The isohybrid command will add USB-Bootable to images made with the isolinux boot loader. You will still need to know how exactly the original USB gets booted. Please follow the steps to create Linux bootable USB drive, Step1: Create Bootable USB Drive for Linux. It supports most of the Linux distribution, such as Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, CentOS, and so on. You can then setup or run Linux from the USB drive. You need isolinux to make the files needed to boot the ISO.any Mint distribution is a readily available example, so you might consider using one in isomaster, remove the bits you don't need, add the bits you do need. PowerISO can create bootable USB drive for Linux. It understands and preserves ISO-Bootable but not USB-Bootable. The isomaster GUI package will let you edit the contents of an ISO image file. I would try just an ISO with the files in it to start with, see if it does the job. Making an ISO bootable.well that's a bit more advanced. I have only ever used -J (Joliet) and -R (Rockridge) options, so that Windows and Linux respectively can each see the long file names. mkisofs works fine if you point it at the folder representing the root of the ISO you want to make. "mkisofs -o /home/me/usb-image.iso -J -l -r -T -v -V /dev/sdb1/" This fails because /dev/sdb1 is a block special node for mounting the device, not a folder containing files. Code: Select all head -c $((256*1024*1024)) /dev/sdb > shorter.img With you getting 8GB from /dev/sdb1 though, it looks like the data is not yet in ISO9660 format, so you will need mkisofs or a GUI equivalent.
